The hydropower plant “Vučje“

The project is co-funded by EU through the Interreg-IPA CBC Bulgaria-Serbia Programme

The “Vučje” hydropower plant on the Vučjanka River is the second longest-lived in Serbia, and it still produces electricity today, as it did throughout the century, except during the Second World War. This hydropower plant is located in the beautiful surroundings of the Vučjanka River, a true jewel of the Leskovac region. Visitors can enjoy a walk by the river, a visit to the Mining Church with an inn, the first museum of the textile industry in the Balkans in the village of Strojkovac, and the famous Teokarevic Villa in Vučje. At the very exit from Vučje, there are old mills where grain is still milled in the old fashioned way. Hydroelectric power plant “Vučje” has a long history dating back to 1901, when the Leskovac Electric Company was founded, whose task was to ensure the exploitation of Vučjanka. The first kilowatts of electricity from the Vučje hydropower plant were generated on December 24, 1903.#vucije #vucjanka #hidroelektrana #sharebalkan
