Leskovačka mućkalica

The project is co-funded by EU through the Interreg-IPA CBC Bulgaria-Serbia Programme

Leskovac mućkalica is a traditional dish originating from the town of Leskovac in Serbia. It is a dish of meat, peppers, tomatoes, onions and spices, prepared in one dish, usually in an earthenware pot. The name “mućkalica” comes from the method of preparation, that is, mixing the ingredients in a bowl. There are different ways of preparing Leskovac mućkalica, but beef meat cut into cubes is usually used, which is first fried in oil. Chopped onions, peppers and tomatoes are then added, after which the dish is simmered until all the ingredients are combined and become soft. Seasonings usually consist of allspice, salt and pepper. Leskovac mućkalica is traditionally served with homemade bread and cream. This dish is a favorite among fans of traditional Serbian cuisine and represents an important part of the cultural heritage of this region.
