Leskovac pepper is one of the most famous and best quality pepper varieties in Serbia, which is grown and used primarily in the Leskovac region. It is also known as embroidery, vencara or “goat’s horn”. It is an extremely old variety of pepper, which most likely originates from the Turkish period, but was cultivated and developed in this area. After harvesting, when it is ripe, it is hung on a string with a needle and thread and dried, and after drying it is used to make allspice, ground or pounded. In the kitchen, it is used to prepare various dishes, the most famous of which are barbecue from Leskovac, ajvar and dry paprika. Ajvar made from this pepper is the most piquant and tasty, because it has a lot of dry matter, which contributes to the strength of the taste.
